Hemp flower or sensimilla - what is it?

Hemp flower or sensimilla - what is it?

Cannabis sensimilla is a fully mature but unfertilized inflorescence found on a female plant. The distinctive properties of barren flower include the fact that it has a more powerful effect on the human body, since it contains a large amount of THC. It is worth noting that some newbies believe that sinsimilla is a specific strain of marijuana, but this is NOT true. Barren flower is the result of special cultivation and strict control over the plant. The term itself comes from Spanish and can be literally translated as “without seeds.”

We do not encourage the cultivation of marijuana, its use and storage. The presented material is intended for persons over 18 years of age and was created for informational purposes.

How does the formation of sensimilla occur

You can find out what a barren marijuana flower looks like shortly after the female bush enters the flowering phase. At this time, the concentration of THC in the plant begins to actively increase, its peak content occurs at the time of fertilization. In this situation, male hemp bushes pollinate female ones, immediately after this process the concentration of THC begins to decrease and the hemp loses some intensity of its psychoactive qualities.

Grover in this situation should not allow pollination of female bushes to occur, thereby preserving the maximum concentration of THC in the buds. If the grower manages to do everything correctly, the flowers will fall off and ovaries will form in their place. A little later, buds will grow in their place, inside which there will be a viscous filling - they contain the maximum THC content that is possible for a certain variety of cannabis. Harvesting should be carried out at the moment when the barren flowers begin to burst.

How barren hemp flowers are grown and the process of determining the sex of the bush

From the very beginning, sensimilla was grown in India, but gradually it was picked up in Jamaica. Now, the cultivation of barren flowers occurs all over the world, since this is the only way to obtain the highest quality harvest. Larger inflorescence grow on female bushes compared to those that have undergone fertilization. Before flowering begins, you can determine the sex of the bush by paying attention to:

  • what does it look like;
  • the growth of the bush and how quickly it develops;
  • rate of appearance of pre-bloom.

An experienced breeder knows perfectly well how to identify the sex of a bush. In practice, it has been noticed that males grow and mature much faster - this happens approximately 1–3 weeks after planting. If among the sown plantation there is a bush that was the very first to produce a pre-flower, its height is 10-15 cm higher than the other bushes, then there is a high probability that this is a male bush.

Evolution has thought through all the nuances: the male is taller, specifically so that his pollen can easily be picked up by the wind and transferred to the female bush. If you look closely, you will notice that female hemp differs in appearance from male hemp - the pre-flowers grow from the stem and are as close to it as possible. But in male cannabis, the pre-flowers are at a distance.

Is it possible to grow sensimilla without removing the male bushes

In practice, this is impossible, since it is impossible to understand what gender the bush will grow from seeds. It is more difficult for beginners in this matter, since they need to correctly identify the sex of the bush and timely move the males further away. Breeders solved this problem - they developed feminized hemp seeds.

Seedbanks indicate that the probability of female bushes growing from feminized seeds is 99.9%. Please note that this 0.1% is due to the fact that the grower may stress the plant in the process, resulting in hermaphrodite. But this happens extremely rarely.

Why sensimilla is the most valued hemp crop

English scientists conducted a study in which they measured the concentration of THC in confiscated batches of weed. As a result, it was found that sensimilla had a THC concentration of 21%, while pollinated marijuana had only 10%. These numbers are averages, as home growers can produce marijuana with a THC concentration of 24-26%.

Most often, this high-quality crop is grown for home use, since barren flowers are not suitable for medical purposes due to their powerful psychotropic effect. Also, female buds can boast a more pleasant aroma and taste.
